The 1 : 5 Million International Geological Map of Europe and Adjacent Areas (IGME 5000)
1 About the project

Geodetic parameters of the IGME 5000 (ArcInfo® standard)

Geodetic parameter Value
projection Lambert’s Conformal Conic
1st standard parallel 60 degrees northern latitude
2nd standard parallel 30 degrees northern latitude
spheroid Bessel* (axes of 6377.397 and 6356.079 km)
central meridian 20 degrees east from Greenwich
latitude of projection origin equator
false easting (m) 0000000
false northing (m): 0000000
* It is planned to shift the spheroid to WSG 84. This will be more accurate but will show no obvious differences at the small scale of 1 : 5 000 000.

Copyright agreement for the download of the topographic base map .E00 files

The IGME 5000 topographic base map contains the following features: the European coastline, capitals and cities (classified according to their number of inhabitants), the drainage system in three classes, and canals, lakes, salt pans and reservoirs. The most recent representation of topographic features, e.g. national boundaries and the limits of the Aral Sea are included. For further detail see Geodetic parameters of the IGME 5000 above.

If you are interested to use the IGME 5000 topographic base map in a non-commercial way, please sign two copies of this copyright agreement and send them to Kristine Asch. You will then be given permission to download the topographic base map in the ArcInfo® EXPORT and/or GENERATEt formats.

The Preliminary Legend of the IGME 5000 (Screen view)

It describes the time and petrographical units used on the draft map so far. However, the database term dictionaries (still in constant modification) contain more detailed description of the units and will be retrievable when finished.
